Black cat with the white fur boots

The cat 
with the black body
and the white fur boots
peeks out of the ferns
with wild 
scared 
eyes

it looks as if it has lost something
maybe it's way
maybe it's collar
maybe it's owner
maybe something else
Maybe someone else
We just don't know 

it sees someone lets out a desperate high pitched meow
begging for something
but what is that something?
we just don't know 

It rubs against the persons feet
hoping  for something 
but the person doesn't know how to help
the helpless kitten
doesn't know if they can

so the person walks away
and the cat follows
realizes that they aren't coming back 
realizes the human is not going to
help them 
and climbs into the ferns
defeated
needing something
that we don't know
