after all this

maybe there's a home after this.

maybe, after the war, after the anger, after all these days of endless exhaustion,
there will be a peace waiting for me
somewhere i can rest
shade, sand and sea, a book to read and the wind on my face.

i am so tired.

i need no cinematic ending nor a blaze of glory,
no happily ever after, no final boss battle, no immortalization in the stars.
let me stay here a little while.
between the lines, behind the pages, where life is kinder, where i am kinder.
one day, the sky will slip off my shoulders and leave me weightless,
light enough to fly,
and that will be enough.

    the snake is hungry

    so the snake will eat

and eat it does, chewing, gnawing,

and will you ever notice, little thing,

that it is your own tail

    you are swallowing?

from salt and foam and scales

    steal the hearts of stone

    nacreous shells, dying husks,

    the honey-sweet flesh that once

    clung to its bones

    to die of thirst.

meet me at the end of the world

the space between firestorms and tsunamis

    across the acid oceans

    and here, where the rot

has begun to reclaim the cities at last.
