Hi! I am going to perform a poem for a oratory thing, I am performing She Will, it is posted and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for performing a poem or public speaking.

Hi! I don't read a lot of poetry in front of people but I do a lot of public speaking and preforming and my biggest piece of advice is too look at the people you are talking to and take your time.
Thank you!
It's a great poem! My biggest tip is to not rush it. I know when I get nervous during any kind of public speaking I go really fast but just practice a lot and good luck!
Thank you so much!!
Talk slow and pick someone in the audience who you look at for the whole time. This may sound creepy but it defiantly helps. Also try to look like you're having fun.
I will!
I do shakespearean plays which are basically dialogue poetry and the best advice I got was to emphasize, especially like emotion words and the end of sentences though in poetry there aren't a lot of sentences lol. Good luck and have fun!
I know I'm a little late for this so my apologies. I've been doing spoken word poetry for almost half a year and here is some of the best things I have been taught overall.
Watch some videos! Take notes on how people use their body language and their cadence in their voice! It can be helpful when crafting your own performance.
Do not be afraid to have a strong and loud voice! Sometimes people are timid, which is completely understandable, but allow your voice and language to carry into the crowd.
Write it down a few times in a notebook and put notes on where you want to pause, do certain actions, and how you want to use your voice!
It's kinda silly, but before every performance you should say "I'm a poet" as loud and strong as you can! It hypes me up and gives me the confidence I need to preform!
Good luck on your reading and any future ones! Hope this helped!
