Cory Booker on senate floor

Leadership on the Left

Sen. Cory Booker took to the Senate floor March 31 to protest the Trump administration's actions, and, at more than 25 hours, his marathon speech broke the record for the longest Senate speech on record. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, have taken their "Fight Oligarchy" tour across the country, attracting huge crowds, with more stops to come. "The nation is in crisis," Booker, Democrat of New Jersey, said in his speech. He criticized the Trump administration's plans for Social Security, education, immigration and health care. [See the New York Times story here.]

The rallies organized by Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez drew some of the largest crowds of their political careers, including Sanders' two campaigns for the Democratic presidential nomination. Sanders’ steadfast, unwavering message about the plight of the American worker and the rise of the billionaire class is resonating – again and forcefully – with people searching for leadership on the left to combat the Trump-Musk agenda. “You gotta be kind of blind not to understand that you have a government of the billionaire class, for the billionaire class, by the billionaire class,” The Guardian quoted Sanders. “And then, on top of all that, you’ve got Trump moving very rapidly toward an authoritarian form of society.” [See The Guardian story here.]
