Ted Walsh, featured through Feb. 3, 2025 at the Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury, VT, is an American realist artist. He paints both landscapes and figures. Throughout his work, with its contemporary and modernist influences, Walsh explores memory, environment, and history. He grew up in Vineland, New Jersey and earned an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

In a description of Walsh's painting practice, the Edgewater Gallery quotes the artist saying he has an "anything goes" approach to applying his oil paint to canvas or wood.

He uses "rags, knives, hands, brushes, brush handles, sandpaper, anything that works." Because he uses many layers that build up over time, he is usually working on about 10 paintings at the same time.

Walsh's paintings, such as "Green Valley" and "Red Barn with White Trim," seem to have stories to tell. These aren't just old barns – there is mystery and intrigue here.
