Six minutes
I have six minutes to write this poem
So I better make it good
I'd polish it and varnish it
If I had the time, I would
But since I have six minutes
Oh drat! Now I have five
I must cram in this poem
So it stays alive -
Clapboard House
My heart is like a clapboard house
Made on the way to West
It goes up fast and crumbles faster
When the nails start to collapse and bend
There are cracks all in the walls that the wind just loves to whistle through -
The fireflies
Climate Change Contest: Silver
The little boy I babysit
Says he's never seen a firefly,
That they're like dragons or zombies or waltzing flowers
And only exist in dreams.
When I explain to him how fireflies -
Calliope
Calliope strike me
Send your arrow through my heart and out my ribs, strike me
Calliope break me
Leave nothing in my mind but claws on chalkboard and empty corners
Calliope starve me -

Labradors when the Subarus break
Poodles for visiting family
Bloodhounds for demotions
Irish Water Spaniels when the grandkids move out
