PHIE

I wonder what I'm going to write here, what it'll turn into. It's strange just writing from my mind but I seem to be doing it. It's so dark outside now, and it gets dark so early. I still miss summer. I miss camp and everyone from there.

we were wearing flannels even in the heat of summer
the sun baking on our backs but we didn't care
as long as we were together
white converse--
mine high tops
yours not--
next to each other
fingers entertwined.

crisp morning air
as i wait for the bus
shivering under layers of fleece
first frost on grass.

trees whizzing by
in their brilliant
orange yellow green
a canopy of bright colors
waving in the wind.

apple pies

i stare at the sky in its pinks purples blues
i twirl my hair and i laugh like you do
but i'm still all alone, in the safety of my room
nobody knows what i plan to do.

i unleash a smile that's hid for so long
